Hi ,            Friday Oct 23,  2009                     Send to a Friend

Friday, Day 23 of your Quitober Challenge.
Welcome back to day 23 of your challenge . Below are some articles that you can read, if you are interested, with now your non-smoker hat on.

Quitober Says:
Today's newsletter is about Humphrey Bogart & if he contributed or not to killing millions of people.
Stats that in 1945 Australia, during his reign on the silver screen, some 72% of men smoked today some 18% of men smoke. (ref Cancer Council)

  Your Say

Sue from UA says: "Am still hanging in there. Allen Carr’s book has been the most help for me. I think letting go of the fear I have had that somehow my life would be missing something if I gave up smoking. Not sure now, where that came from…………………although I am not getting too excited. It is still a day by day proposition but I have more stickers on my door now than on the sticky paper so something to be proud of I think.

I am very clear though, that I wouldn’t have taken this step had Quitober not come to the UofA, so thankyou."

Quitober says: You know Sue it is so good to hear that you have gotten this far & like you,
I can only hope you make it all the way & altogether, but one day at a time.

  Quit Smoking Tips

Tip 23 :

Below is an interesting debate on effects of role models on  recruiting smokers.

"Should smokers bear the responsibility for the health risks of cigarette smoking?"

.......Smokers have been profoundly brainwashed- both on TV and in the movies. Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart and Marlon Brando have already been mentioned. But what about Cruella DeVille, thin, rich and powerful? And a smoker. Bruce Willis is a totally cool-smoker. Sharon Stone, a powerful, in control, beautiful, thin, smoker. It is a fact
that cigarette companies pay screenwriters to write in smoking parts in the movies
.
